Isaac reopened the wells dug by his father Abraham in the Valley of Gerar, but the Philistines quarreled with him over the water. He eventually dug a well that no one disputed and named it Rehoboth. The Lord appeared to him and promised to bless him and increase his descendants. Abimelek and his advisers came to make a treaty with Isaac, and they ate and drank together before leaving peacefully. Isaac's servants found water in a well they had dug and reported it to him.
