Isaac, who was old and blind, asked his older son Esau to hunt some wild game and prepare him tasty food so that he could give him his blessing before he died. Rebekah overheard this and instructed her son Jacob to bring her two young goats to prepare the food instead. Jacob was hesitant, but Rebekah convinced him to do it. She prepared the food and Jacob took it to his father, pretending to be Esau. Isaac blessed Jacob, thinking he was Esau, and when Esau found out, he was furious.

Isaac reopened the wells dug by his father Abraham in the Valley of Gerar, but the Philistines quarreled with him over the water. He eventually dug a well that no one disputed and named it Rehoboth. The Lord appeared to him and promised to bless him and increase his descendants. Abimelek and his advisers came to make a treaty with Isaac, and they ate and drank together before leaving peacefully. Isaac's servants found water in a well they had dug and reported it to him.

Isaac, during a famine, went to Abimelek king of the Philistines in Gerar. God appeared to Isaac and promised to bless him and his descendants. Isaac stayed in Gerar and lied about his wife, Rebekah, being his sister out of fear. Abimelek discovered the truth and warned his people not to harm Isaac or his wife. Isaac became wealthy, and the Philistines envied him, so they stopped up the wells his father's servants had dug.

Abraham instructs his senior servant to find a wife for his son Isaac from his own relatives and not from the Canaanites. The servant swears an oath to fulfill this task and is assured by Abraham that God will send his angel to help him.
